Island Hall is an historic house and family home, built in 1749, the Grade II* listed Georgian home sits within three acres of immaculate gardens, ancient trees, and Chinese-style bridge that crosses the Great Ouse and leads to an ornamental, romantic, river island, from which the house take its name. Behind this lies a 227 acre Designated Special Area of Conservation known as Portholme, the largest water meadow in Britain containing many rare species of grass, flowers and dragonfly, providing a safe haven for less common breeding birds in summer.
The house is open throughout the year to special interest groups for teas and tours, by prior appointment or to individuals or smaller groups on pre assigned days. We offer a calendar of annual charity events, from our Christmas Carol Concert (always in aid of a smaller local charity), Red Cross courtyard charity craft market and garden opening, to National Garden Scheme and other charity open garden days
